I have attended many teachings on this subject and also practice this weekly at the Washington House of Prayer. I love the "traditional" viewpoint of this teaching and its application. I will also say that variations of it work as well. To just be locked into one way of doing it is sometimes limiting, although equipping for those who need the guidelines to cause this to happen. I like the structure of the Chorus leader, the other vocalists, the lead intercession and the worship leader. It creates a great pattern whereby the group can grow.
